Agata Gertchen – Polish graphic artist and draughtswoman, graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław. Winner of international awards, author of 18 solo shows and over 160 group exhibitions
Agata Gertchen’s art focuses on everyday objects and their hidden dimensions. Her early works were realistic, but she gradually shifted towards exploring the function and temporality of objects, transforming them into cosmic or abstract landscapes. Trivial objects became the foundation of her artistic reflection.
Born in Rawicz in 1985. She graduated in 2010 from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wrocław, Faculty of Graphic Arts. She earned her MFA in the Intaglio Studio of Prof. Przemysław Tyszkiewicz and Prof. Roman Kowalik’s Graphic Design Studio. In 2016 she obtained a PhD and is currently an assistant professor at the Faculty of Graphics and Media Art.
Gertchen employs traditional printmaking and drawing techniques. Her work lies between still life and abstraction, creating a unique visual language.
She has presented works in more than 80 exhibitions in Poland and another 80 abroad, including the USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, France, Germany, South Korea, India and Spain. She has had 18 solo shows.
