Matylda Burszta – painting + embroidery, relief and touch
Matylda Burszta-Rypel is a Wrocław-based artist who integrates embroidery into painting, threading the canvas to achieve three-dimensional texture and a tactile presence.
Language & concept
Painting meets textile craft: the thread becomes drawing, and relief carries meaning. Open-ended compositions spark associations—from map-like structures (Mappa Mundi) to ties and relationships, memory traces and “unknown friends”.
Motifs & techniques
- Embroidery within the canvas – threads as contour and inner grids; painting + textile.
- Relief/texture – depth built through stitching and layered paint.
- Colour focus – single-hue dominants and nuanced tonal ranges.
- Mapping meshes – cartographic lattices, topographies of relations.
- Sources – nature and dreams; deliberate ambiguity that invites personal reading.
