Rubica von Streng creates abstract paintings that explore the relationship between the certainties of today and the uncertainties of the future. Her works, full of intense colors and intricate details, offer powerful yet enigmatic meanings, reflecting the form of entropy – the natural tendency toward disorder. Von Streng’s art delves into scientific concepts and questions the forces driving the world toward chaos, acknowledging that on a cosmic scale, this trend is inevitable. 

The artist often addresses themes such as nature conservation, biodiversity, and climate change, particularly in her ongoing “PortLand” cycle (2018–present), which includes over 120 paintings and a sculpture. The cycle evolves from exploring the connection between the individual and their environment to the exploration of time, change, and reconciliation. 

Kerstin Bitar, Chief Art Historian at the Museum Rosengart Collection in Lucerne, notes that von Streng’s works function like a seismograph, deeply sensing the environment. The “PortLand” series challenges boundaries, inviting the viewer into a complex, imaginative world that poses serious questions about our future.
